Ordering In For The Win

Updated: Jun 18, 2020

Northwest Londoners this post is for you! Here's a list of all the local spots I've been ordering from lately. I'm talking fast, safe, delicious delivery.

As my HFL fam knows, going to restaurants is a huge part of my happiness. It's what I love to write about and it's how I experience the world. Therefore, not being able to try new places has been a low blow to my soul. But hey, I'm an optimist at heart. So what does the girl who loves going out to eat do when she can't leave the house? She orders in people!

Before the stay home order, I was so focused on venturing out or going to the most popular neighbourhoods that I didn't realise all the cool spots near me. Over the past few weeks, I've had such a great time ordering takeaway and delivery that I just had to share my findings with you all.

1) Eggslut

Eggslut is number 1 on this list for one very delicious reason. The Fairfax Sandwich. Imagine rich, buttery brioche from Bread Ahead Bakery (who also deliver!). The fluffiest, creamiest scrambled eggs you've ever put in your mouth. A thick slice of melty cheddar cheese. Sweet yet savoury caramelised onions. And finally, a spicy sriracha mayo that brightens the entire sandwich. It's simply perfection in terms of construction, flavour combination and overall execution. Eggslut also goes above and beyond with their packaging to ensure your food arrives intact and warm. I love this attention to detail and I know you will too.

2) Morso Pasta

Those who follow @hungryfor_life_ on Instagram, saw me fall in love with cacio e pepe the other week. Since then, I order it every chance I get and Morso's tagliatelle cacio e pepe has quickly become my absolute favourite. I'm a firm believer that comfort and pasta go hand in hand. But wait, you know what also screams comfort is Morso's flourless chocolate tart with rosemary infused mascarpone cream. It's to die for. Enough said.

3) Homeslice

We're headed into pizza land with my picks for 3rd and 4th place. Both serve amazing pizzas but could not be more different from each other. Homeslice celebrates seasonal ingredients and unique pairings. I'm obsessed with their 4 cheese, jalapeno salsa and rye crumb pizza. It's salty, a little sweet and a lot spicy. Pro tip: the slices are massive, I'm talking bigger than your head so Homeslice is perfect if you're looking to have leftovers.

4) Tokyo Pizza

Tokyo Pizza is putting an Asian spin on Italian classics and I am here for it. The slow cooked Wagyu pizza with asparagus, mozzarella and spicy mayo sauce is a real show stopper in not only looks but taste. Although I have to admit the Kinoko (mushroom) pizza is my true favourite. I'm a sucker for the 3 mushroom varieties, chilli flakes, chives and sweet soy truffle glaze. It's an explosion of umami. There you have it. This underground pizza joint is now fully established in our takeout rotation.

5) Cocotte

Is there anything more soul satisfying than roast chicken? How about some truffle mac and cheese to go with it? Or a hearty salad? Cocotte is my kind of restaurant, delivering my kind of comfort food. I swear dragging a piece of chicken through one of Cocotte's homemade sauces is something magical.

6) Unico Gelato

The weather is warming up and our little flat doesn't have air conditioning so a gelato delivery is key to keeping cool. Plus I have a soft spot in my heart for gelato in summertime. It's nostalgic and oh so sweet. Stracciatella, chocolate hazelnut and pistachio are a few of my favs. Needless to say I'm beyond happy Unico delivers now more than ever.

7) Real Ale

Pub life is alive and kicking at the HFL household thanks to Real Ale. Their selection is vast and the quality is unbeatable. I've been having a blast doing taste tests and experimenting with new brands. Let's just say it's always an exciting day when the craft beer, wine and cider deliveries arrive.

I have to end this post by saying thank you to all the restaurants staying open and to those revamping their businesses in order to keep all of us fed. Also, shout out to the delivery drivers providing great service and keeping the industry alive. I'd love to connect with you so please share where you have been ordering from no matter what city you live in. Be safe everyone and keep eating.
